How
will Cam Community benefit the local community?
Cam Community will benefit the local community in a number of ways. It will empower local residents to look at incidents within their area and provide them with the knowledge to protect themselves against crime, by providing crime prevention advice.
Anyone is now able to search by post code, street name or village/town, between specified dates to look at crime which has happened in their area. It gives brief details such as the specific beat code, a reference, the offence period, time, district and modus operandi (MO).
The newly re-designed Cam Community site also has links into other crime reduction and local community websites, in addition there is an advanced 'what's on' section which shows community events across the county.
There is also information on local police stations, including their contact details and opening times. People will also have information on their local police officers as well as now being able to email them.
What if I don't know where/what sector I live in?
You don't need to know what sector/district that you live in. You can now search by your village, town or post code to find out what sector you fall in to. This will help you navigate the Cam Community pages to get the most out of the information.
How long has the Cam Community web pages taken to develop?
There has been a similar page on the force website since it was launched five-years ago, called Community Watch. This held basic information and was accessible to certain community groups, such as Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators, by password only.
It was highlighted about one-year ago that this information should be made available and accessible to the wider community. The force web manager in conjunction with the Community Safety Unit have been developing and redesigning the web pages to further serve the local community of Cambridgeshire.
Will the emails go direct to the police officers?
On the Cam Community pages it provides contact details to all the police stations in Cambridgeshire and also provides email addresses of local police officers across the county.
When an email is sent to a specific police officer, this is first directed to the manager of the E-Policing Unit at Force Headquarters, who accesses the information and immediately re-directs the email to, either the most appropriate police officer or department, to action.
This stops information being held on the wrong persons email account and allows the right people to have access to the right information quickly.
Will my personal information be put on the website if
I am a victim of crime?
No personal information will be placed on the force website. When a crime is committed the Community Safety Unit will go through that information, taking out all sensitive or personal details before it is transferred onto the Cam Community web page.
Only the road name, district, time and date, along with a general description of the crime will be placed on the web site. Nothing which could identify the victim will be made available to the wider community.
How often will the Cam Community web pages be updated?
The information on the Cam Community web pages are updated daily by the Community Safety Unit. This means that people will have access to the most current and up-to-date information.
